After our visit to Missoula, we headed north through Kalispell, Montana. Then it was onto the 52 miles of the narrow, winding, high altitude Highway to the Sun, through Glacier National Park. The highway closed the next day for the winter. It was a beautiful journey but it was very windy, foggy and cold; especially when we reached the top. And we certainly didn't see any sign of the sun. But we saw lots of beautiful scenery on the drive.
| Lake McDonald near the beginning of the highway. |
| Interesting patterns of erosion in the rock. |
| Damp and cold but pretty country. |
| It doesn't hurt to like heights if you drive this highway. |
| Cars lined up heading south. |
| At the top of Logan Pass. Laurel and I were almost the only ones dumb enough to be wearing shorts. Most people had on their winter coats. A fire was burning in the fireplace in the lodge and travellers were huddling around it. |
| Finally, sunshine when we reached the north end of the Park. |
| Looking back at the bad weather we just travelled through. |
| Heading west and north towards the border crossing at Chieftan Mountain. |
| We're in Canada, looking west towards the town of Waterton which is out of view to the left. |
