beautiful creston valley

During our September visit to Laurel's Mom and Dad in Creston, we got in two bike rides. I cycled through Lister and Canyon on Thursday and then on Friday we cycled to Wyndell and back. Once again we had beautiful weather. Friday was especially warm for September.

Out near Randal and Elisbeth's home in Lister. It's a wonderful route for cycling because as you can see, traffic is not exactly heavy.

The beautiful Purcells viewed from Lister.

I have a lot of good memories of  Canyon Park. When I was a student at Creston Elementary School a few years ago, each grade had their own day at Canyon Park during the last week of school, to celebrate the end of the school year. It was a day we looked forward to all year.

The park is in a beautiful location near the mountains.

It's amazing how unchanged the park remains.

On our way to Wyndell on what is known as the Lower Road to Wyndell. I cycled this road for five summers to my summer job in Wyndell.

So many beautiful views; it's difficult to cycle when you feel like you should stop to take pictures of all the sights.

This is Wyndell Box and Lumber, the Wyndell sawmill. I worked here the summers of 1969 to 1973 to  pay my way through university.

Laurel cycling west of Wyndell on the flats. To the north is Duck Lake and Kootenay Lake.

Finding a place for lunch on the Kootenay River.

A peaceful spot.
Someone has built a little dock on the river.

Looks like this is far as we go on the dike. We're sort of worried about bears anyways. We were told someone had met up with a bear on the dike recently.

Heading back to Creston.

It will be good to get back to Creston, because its quite hot out.

off to creston

Wednesday September 21st was another beautiful day. We left Denise and Jerry's in Calgary and headed for Creston.

On the road again near Banff.

Into Kootenay National Park.

The western side of the Rockies.

Taking a break. Not too far to Radium now.
The Hoodoos near Invermere.

I remember passing these as a boy so that's a couple of years ago.
Arriving in Creston at Laurel's Mom and Dad's home.

sunny calgary

We arrived in Calgary Monday afternoon as we tried to escape the rain of Waterton. Tuesday September 20th was a beautiful sunny day in Calgary. In the morning Laurel and  I biked the Bow Valley Trail into downtown Calgary from Denise and Jerry's home where we had stayed overnight.
Heading out from Denise and Jerry's for downtown Calgary.

Lots of nice sights along the Bow Valley Trail. It's hard to believe we're in the city.

We made it.

Oil and gas money.

More of the Bow Valley Trail.

Laurel taking a rest.

Visiting Laurel's Aunt Mary and Uncle Glen Tuesday afternoon with sister Denise. It was Glen's 90th birthday.

windy waterton

We spent a night in Waterton September 18th and would have stayed longer but the weather was rainy and windy. Of course, wind is normal for Waterton. We took a short hike above the town on the Bears Hump trail - about 800 feet elevation gain. On the way down the trail it started pouring so we hopped in the car and headed for Pincher Creek.
Just checked into the Bear Mountain Motel in Waterton. It's good to be back in Canada.

View of Waterton from the Prince of Wales Hotel.
On the beach.

Town visitors.

Enjoying a snack outside our motel after a walk around Waterton.

Ready to leave the next morning. An old fashioned motel with, WOW, windows that open.
Streets of Waterton.
This is the view of  the Prince of Wales Hotel from up on the trail

Good view of the town and Waterton Lake.

Laurel and lots of rock.

At the top.

More Waterton.

Laurel on the trail down.
Beautiful country south of Pincher Creek.
